This
old adobe house is located about a half of mile
east of the Cliff Dwellers Lodge. I have passed it several times. In 2004, I stopped for a closer look. This house is adjacent
to north side of the roadway on US 89A. What was this place? This house was occupied most notably by the Russell Family and the Greene families. This building was the original Cliffdweller's Lodge where people would stop for the night or pass the time. It is my understanding that it has not been occupied full time since 1951. The current Cliffdweller's lodge was built much later a bit further up the road. Although no longer occupied, this unusual home is well worth
a stop. Watch for the dwelling as you travel to the north rim of
the Grand Canyon on US 89A. You may see Native Americans in this area displaying their wares in the area as well. It is easy to pull off, take a peak inside the old adobe house and relax a bit here before heading on.

| Although it was a very hot day when I stopped by, the inside of the dwelling is still quite interesting. The adobe construction made it seem quite a bit cooler than one would expect inside. Use your imagination when you visit it will be easy to visualize a family living and working here. |
