| Sitgreaves Pass is a rare example of US 66 the way it used to be. During the highway's "hey day" many a tow truck earned a living towing the old gravity feed automobiles through this pass. Community politics, as usual, dictated this route as opposed to the latter alignment along the railroad and the route Interstate 40 now takes. I do not recommend taking an RV on this portion of the road. Looking at the pictures of the road on this page, you may get an idea why I say this. Goldroad was a former settlement located towards the western end of the pass. Today it is just some scattered foundations with a modern day gold mine. The mine does give tours but on the day I last went to this area it was closed. Here are some pictures of the area so you can get some idea of the stark beauty of this high desert area. As you can see, even some of today's more powerful cars sometimes don't make it on this pass. So, a word to the wise and use care when driving this area of old US 66. |

| Oatman road is now signed with Historic US 66 signs. I understand that quite often, this area has had a problem with the highway signs being stolen so you may or may not see any of these signs as you travel here. |
