THIS
IS A BEAUTIFUL PARK ON THE NORTHWESTERN SIDE
OF THE ISLAND
Its
halfway between Hilo and Waimea just off Hawaii
State Route 19. You'll have to lookout for
the sign directing you to this park. The road
is a single lane highway that takes you to
the park. Tent camping is allowed with permit.
When we were there in December 2006 the seas
were very rough. We enjoyed our visit to Laupahoehoe
Point.
Before the 1946 Tsunami this was the site of the town of Laupahoehoe. To prevent another tradegy the town moved up the hill and on the land side of HI SR 19.
