The altitude is 2700 ft. so it can get cold here. Its the home of Parker Ranch and has one of the largest Starbucks on the Big Island. It a very modern and progressive city. Its the only town I know about where the city name Waimea and the post office location name is different. The reason is there are 3 Waimeas in Hawaii. The post office calls this Kamuela (Hawaiian for Sam) Sam Parker was the grandson of the founder of Parker Ranch. There is beautiful mountain scenery here but the tropics is for a lower altitude. If you just appeared one day in Waimea you would think your not in Hawaii at all.
